Honoring Our United States Veterans

Veterans Day, originally known as Armistice Day, is a federally recognized holiday throughout the United States that is observed annually on November 11. It honors military veterans who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces and who were discharged under conditions other than dishonorable. Veterans Day coincides with both Armistice Day and Remembrance Day, both of which are celebrated elsewhere to mark the anniversary of the end of WWI. Major WWI hostilities ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918 when the Armistice with Germany went into effect. Veterans Day was officially renamed in 1954 at the urging of major U.S. veteran organizations.

Supporting Our Veterans

Throughout the years, a cause very close to our hearts is the Wounded Warriors in Action Foundation. We support this foundation because it gives these very brave Wounded Warriors the ability to take part in world-class outdoor sporting activities without cost. WWIAF honors our veterans’ sacrifice, encourages independence and connections with communities and promotes healing and wellness through camaraderie and a shared passion for the outdoors.

According to the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, at least 20 veterans and active-duty servicemembers commit suicide on a daily basis, due to feelings of hopelessness, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder and a history of trauma. The WWIAF has dedicated itself to help offset those feelings through their activities, and a small part of what we do is dedicated to the same — giving people an outlet to decompress and release their stress and anxiety.

Research has shown the positive effects warm water immersion therapy has on individuals. Soaking in a hot tub for 20 minutes has a similar effect on the nervous system as meditation. Some of these effects include a reduction in stress levels, the promotion of self-reflection and emotional balance, as well as a reduction in anxiety.

So How Can This Help Our Veterans?

While soaking in a hot tub on a daily basis is not a replacement for professional mental health therapy and care, it can provide the daily break you may need to take the edge off and just give yourself some guaranteed inner and outer peace. Whether you choose to soak in your hot tub first thing in the morning to get your day started right or enjoy your soak at night prior to bed to ensure a sound night of sleep, we know you’ll see a difference in your well-being during that time.

The warm water triggers some subtle physiological mechanisms that have immediate effects. Blood vessels dilate in response to the heat, which can decrease blood pressure. Tense and tight muscles relax, aiding muscle recovery after exercise or injury while offering relief from soreness, stiffness, and swelling. Moreover, while your body focuses on gaining heat the central nervous system’s sensitivity is reduced and endorphins are released, causing temporary pain relief and ultimately, relaxation.

If you are a veteran and want to learn more about the benefits of warm water immersion in a hot tub, please contact us today. One of our greatest privileges is being a part of the WWIAF and supporting our veterans in all that we do. We are proud of all you do and look forward to helping you find ways to relax and enjoy the stress-free lifestyle you deserve.
